A shocking and unexpected layoff of all Twitter’s staff in Accra days after resuming HQ operations

After receiving a termination notice on Friday 4th November 2022 via email that did not address them directly by their names, just four days after the physical location opened.

These employees who have been working remotely for over a year were recruited from different African countries and relocated to Accra, Ghana only to be sacked almost four days after.

The letter read “The company is reorganizing its operations as a result of a need to reduce costs. It is with regret that we’re writing to inform you that your employment is terminating as a result of this exercise”. “Your last day of employment will be 4th December 2022. You will be placed on garden leave until your termination date.”

There has been an inconsistency in communication as Elon Musk the new owner of Twitter tweeted that everyone who exited was offered three months’ severance which is 50% more than what is legally required.

But the question everyone is asking is, does the termination of all Twitter African staff makes us question twitter’s commitment to the African continent, as more than 20 million of its users are Africans?
